Access to Knowledge in Jerash Refugee Camp

Jerash Refugee Camp is home to thousands of Palestinian refugees who face ongoing economic and social challenges. Despite the strong sense of community within the camp, access to educational and cultural resources remains extremely limited.
One of the major challenges is the absence of public libraries or accessible learning spaces where children and youth can read, study, and explore knowledge outside of school. For many young people in the camp, books and learning resources are not easily available.
In response to this need, Hopes for Training, Education, and Development established Hopes Library as a community learning space dedicated to promoting reading, education, and access to knowledge.
Today, the library serves as the only public community library in Jerash Refugee Camp, providing children and youth with opportunities to read, learn, and grow in a safe and supportive environment.

Hopes Library was created to ensure that children and young people in the camp have access to books, educational activities, and a quiet space for study and personal development.

The library offers a welcoming environment where young readers can discover stories, expand their knowledge, and strengthen their academic skills. By providing free access to books and learning resources, the library helps bridge the educational gap faced by many families in the camp.

For many children, the library represents their first opportunity to regularly interact with books and develop a lifelong habit of reading.

Hopes Library provides free access to a wide variety of books for children, youth, and families. Members can borrow books and take them home, encouraging continuous learning, curiosity, and self-development beyond the library walls.

This service ensures that every visitor, regardless of financial background, has the opportunity to explore knowledge and cultivate a love for reading.

Connectivity and Digital Access

Access to the internet is an essential part of modern learning. However, reliable connectivity is not always available for many families in the camp.

Through the generous support of Zain Jordan, Hopes Library is able to provide free internet access within the library space. This partnership allows students to access educational resources, complete school assignments, and explore digital learning opportunities.

The availability of free internet has transformed the library into a dynamic learning hub where young people can combine reading with digital exploration.
