For a group of young men and women from Jerash Refugee Camp, the answer came in colors, symbols, and bold brushstrokes.
Through the mural painting activity “How Do You See the Good Life in Jordan?”, youth gathered to transform their ideas into art. This inspiring initiative was implemented in collaboration between Hopes Jordan and Civil Peace Service (CPS), creating a safe and open space where young people could express their dreams of hope, peace, dignity, and opportunity.

Creating a Safe Space for Expression
The activity was designed as more than just an art workshop. It was a structured, thoughtful space for dialogue and reflection.
Before the first brush touched the wall, participants engaged in discussions about what a “good life” truly means to them. They spoke about education, equal opportunities, social cohesion, stability, creativity, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to society. These conversations shaped the symbols and themes that later appeared in the mural.
For many youth in the camp, opportunities to publicly express their perspectives are limited. This activity shifted that dynamic. It invited them to think critically, to imagine boldly, and to translate abstract hopes into visible, powerful imagery.
Every color told a story.
Every brushstroke carried a message from a heart that believes in change.

From Ideas to Impact: Four Days of Transformation
In partnership with CPS and the talented artist Batooledais, the young artists worked intensively over four days to bring their collective vision to life.
The process itself was transformative.
- Youth collaborated on the design concept.
- They divided responsibilities and supported one another.
- They refined details, adjusted compositions, and solved challenges together.
What began as sketches on paper evolved into a vibrant mural that now stands as a symbol of aspiration and unity.
The wall, once ordinary, became a statement.

The Power of Collective Creativity
Beyond the final artwork, the activity strengthened teamwork, communication, and confidence among participants. It encouraged leadership and reinforced the value of collaboration.
Art became a tool for:
- Building trust
- Encouraging dialogue
- Promoting peaceful expression
- Strengthening community identity
The mural reflects not only individual dreams, but a shared commitment to coexistence, resilience, and positive contribution to Jordanian society.

A Celebration of Youth Voice and Community Spirit
We are proud of what was accomplished at Hopes.
From painting on canvas to transforming walls into stories of color and hope, the journey has been inspiring at every stage. The completed mural is a testament to the creativity, dedication, and spirit of young people in Jerash Camp.
This project reminds us that youth are not passive observers of their reality. They are thinkers, creators, and changemakers.
They are not waiting for the good life to arrive.
They are defining it.
And now, they have painted it for everyone to see. 💛
